The Power of Having Your Own Vision

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” ~Helen Keller

It’s that time of year again when people start to reflect and think about making New Year Resolutions. But I have a problem with resolutions! They typically DO NOT WORK! The reason they don’t work is primarily because people are just jumping on the bandwagon and it’s the “thing to do” but have no real plans to manifest the resolution. That just doesn’t work.

So what happens?

Your life feels like it’s in a holding pattern and you end up in the same place year after year. Frustrated. Now at the end of ANOTHER YEAR in the same place as you were the year before.

Why does this happen?

It’s probably because you haven’t decided where you want your life to land so it’s in a holding pattern waiting for direction from YOU! You have to write the vision for your life which includes EVERY area of your life, so you can see it, breathe it, focus on it and finally LIVE IT!

You must have your own vision

The vision for your life CANNOT be what someone else has envisioned for you. Your vision entails YOUR dreams, desires, and goals. Vision is similar to a map for your life. It is a tangible representation of where you are going. It represents your ideal life. It’s not enough to say that you want your life to change, you need to know how you want your life to look. THAT’S VISION!

If you don’t have a vision for your future, then you are simply wandering through life, most likely living from day to day, paycheck to paycheck and perhaps from crisis to crisis because you’re just taking each day as it comes.

Is your life getting better year after year, or is it staying the same or even worse?

The alternative is to have a vision for your life that you consciously work toward along with having a visual like a vision board that you focus on that helps to subconsciously work toward those same goals.

Your conscious and and subconscious work together to make things happen.

Creating a vision board is one of the most valuable visualization tools available to you. Replaying the mental vision and image of where or who you would like to be is the main catalyst in swinging your vision from a just a dream to reality!

“And then God answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming.” Habakkuk 2:2-3

What happens when you don’t have a vision?

Many symptoms are evident in people with no vision and here are just a few examples:

  • You make New Year resolutions each year but never complete them
  • You’re frustrated with your life because it seems that nothing ever changes
  • You’re working a job that makes you miserable
  • You focus on making other people happy while making yourself miserable in the process
  • You blame other people for your problems (even things that happened 20 plus years ago)
  • You go from relationship to relationship trying to fill a void
  • You start lots of projects but never seem to finish
  • and so many more…

The bottom line is that WITHOUT A VISION, YOUR DREAMS DIE! When your dreams die, then a part of you dies along with them.

And it’s not enough just to have the thoughts about the vision for your life but you must have that vision in front of you daily because what you focus on is what you attract and becomes real in your life.

When you don’t have the visual to keep you focused, then your thoughts and actions turn toward whatever is happening in your life in the moment and you get off track to reaching your goals and true desires.

Get started with your vision for 2015

I know first hand from coaching others that one of the missing ingredients to success is having vision and knowing what you want. Without clarity of vision, you gets tons of ideas that you don’t know what to do with. You’re frustrated because it seems like you’re in a rat race with yourself and losing. You go in circles and end up in the very same spot you started in without ever seeming to move forward in life.

It doesn’t have to be that way. You have the power to change that through getting a clear vision for your future. What are your dreams that you put on the back burner and forgot about? What do you really want your life to look like?

Having vision is so important that I decided that I would help you by hosting my ReIgnite Your Dreams: Vision Board Workshop on January 17, 2015 in Rochester, NY. In the workshop I’m going to help you:
