Take Back Your Life in 5 Easy Steps

LIFE HAPPENS! THINGS HAPPEN! Sometimes things just don’t go the way you planned and you find yourself in a START OVER situation.

If you’re like many women you may be at a time in your life where things are changing! YOU are changing. You’ve raised your children, you’ve had the husband or relationship, you’ve worked the job or career that was available or expected. But at some point during that process, you unintentionally LOST YOURSELF!

I know first hand what that is like. After I went through my separation and divorce and things settled, I discovered that I didn’t even know who I was anymore. I was lost in the hustle and bustle of being a mom, wife, minister, employee and a whole bunch of other expectations that were put on me, or that I put on myself… that I’d lost focus of who I really was and what was important to ME. I’d forgotten about my purpose. I’d forgotten about my dreams and desires.

I soon discovered that where I was physically, emotionally, and spiritually was not where I wanted to be so it became too uncomfortable to just stay there.

But here’s the thing. Taking your life back is a process! It takes time, dedication and a determination to make it happen no matter what others think of you. After all this is YOUR life, not theirs!

If you are in the process of rediscovering YOU  and getting your life back on track, or maybe you’ve never even been introduced to the REAL YOU at all, here are five simple tips to get you started in that direction and looking at life in a new way. Yes, they are SIMPLE but they will begin to open your mind to a new way of thinking and a new way of living.

FOOD – Now this might seem a little silly, but are you even eating what YOU enjoy? Or are your food choices based on habit from feeding your kids? Husband? What you were raised on? Try exploring new foods to see what YOU like. When I began to explore new foods and tastes I discovered that I have a palate for Mediterranean and Greek flavors. Don’t be stuck in a rut, even with what you eat. It doesn’t hurt to try new foods and explore the possibilities of your palate.

FASHION – What are you wearing? How does it make YOU feel? Is your style based on someone else’s definition of what you should wear? Are you using your clothing to HIDE something? Do you only wear dark colors because it’s a reflection of what you’re feeling inside but trying to hide from others? Take a trip to the mall and try on things that you admire but that you would not have dared to wear before. Now is the time to give it a go. Bring an honest friend, preferably one with some style, to help make selections and give you honest feedback. A new great fitting outfit can be a real confidence booster. Trust me, it makes a difference. When my life was transitioning, I tossed my 2 sizes to big clothes and bought what I liked and what accentuated my body type. I like my clothes to fit now! I am no longer trying to hide ME and I can do it and still remain classy, not trashy.

FUN – What do you like to do for fun? What do YOU really enjoy? Take the time to figure out what is important to you and YOUR time. When was the last time that you ventured out to do something new? Visit a new restaurant? Go to a museum or enjoy some other cultured experience? Do you enjoy traveling? Pick one thing that you would’ve never done before and give it a try. You never know what you’re missing out on until you explore different things. I discovered that I really enjoy traveling and that is something I’ve built into my life and business model.

FOCUS – Take some time to determine what your new focus is. When life changes,  that is the perfect time to find a new focus. Your focus should no longer the kids when they’re grown and have their own lives. Maybe you’re divorced so the husband is no longer a focus for you. You’ve completed your degree, now what? Always have a plan for the next phase of your life. Don’t just take each day as it comes but decide to live with purpose and intention. Live today based on how you want your tomorrow to be!

FUTURE – Where do you want to go from here? What does the rest of your life look like? Get a vision for your future. You do know that you still have one right? Now is the perfect time to create the life you really want! What dreams did you set aside? What about that book you’ve been thinking about for years? What about that business idea you pushed to the back burner? What about that place you wanted to visit? Stir up your old dreams and see if they still excite you! And if they do, GO FOR IT! What’s stopping you now?

It’s time to rediscover and live your life! Time is valuable and you don’t want to waste another minute giving your life to regrets, what could have been, or what went wrong. Focus on the now and the next and LIVE! Reignite your life and learn to be the YOU that YOU are.
