Becoming a Better You – Keys to Self Improvement

Successful people are always looking for ways to improve themselves. Self improvement becomes a way of life. It’s about never getting comfortable or complacent knowing that things can change in a blink of an eye. There’s not much that we have control over in this world, but the one thing that you have absolute control over is YOU! And, since you’re the only YOU that you’ll have, why not do what you can to become a better YOU! No matter what stage of life you’re in, these are ways to help bring balance to your life. Take a look at these four areas and determine how you’re doing in each.

Live from the inside out
Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by setting aside time daily for meditation and devotion. It’s those quiet times that you can most hear from God and get the peace that’s needed about life and even business decisions. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind and focus. For many of us it’s hard to even find the peace and quiet we want even in our own home but do your best. This may mean waking up extra early before anyone gets up to start the hustle and bustle of the day. If it helps you focus, play some soft or worship music. There’s sound, yes, but music can soothe.

Live on and in purpose
If you are wandering through life with little direction and no life focus, just hoping that one day you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity…I’m sorry to be the one to tell you that it just doesn’t happen that way. You have not identified your purpose. Knowing your purpose provides direction and clarity in your life and causes you not to waste so much time. Take some time to learn about you and identify your life purpose and you will have your own unique compass that will guide you. This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end. But, there’s always that small loophole to turn things around and win that small place you can make a big difference for yourself.

Define your values
What’s important to you? What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your life goals – check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn’t align with any of your top five values – you may want to reconsider it or revise it. The number of values isn’t as important as having them. If you can list the top 3, go for it. The number shouldn’t discourage you, instead it should motivate you to do more.

Focus on your strengths
What special talents do you have? What are your positive traits? List three – if you get stuck, ask your family or friends to you to help identify these. Are you creative, witty, good with your hands? Find ways to express the real you through your strengths. You can increase your confidence when you realize that you have strengths. Not only that, when you focus on your strengths instead of your weaknesses, those weak areas don’t seem as major anymore. It’s what you focus on that expands. Focus on what you do well!
