3 Clues You’re Not Positioned to Make Serious Money in Your Business

make serious moneyIf you are an entrepreneur, I’d be willing to bet everything I own that you started your business with the expectation that you’d be making money. If you’re not trying to make money in your business, then why have one? You can start a non-profit, but you’d still need to make money to run it. The only difference is that your sales are called “fund-raising.” The bottom line is, you need money coming in the door or I guess I should say in the bank. Here are  3 sure-fire clues that I’ve come up with that say you’re struggling to make any real money in your business.

  1. You have an outdated website. Now every (well almost every) business owner understands the importance of having a website. Yet, that’s about as far as it goes for some. If you’re still using a Flash based website, it’s automatically OUTDATED! I’ve seen so many building websites with free accounts such as Wix for example. At the time of this article, all of their websites that they offer you are based on Flash. It’s not the only one, but the one that comes to mind. What’s wrong with a Flash website you ask? Lots. As a web developer and and iPad user, my biggest problem with a Flash website is that it cannot be viewed on an Apple phone or tablet. If your potential client is using an iPhone or iPad, then guess what? They cannot see your website with either of those devices which means the likelihood of that potential client becoming a client, is about zilch! Not only that but if your site is built using 100% flash, then it cannot be read by search engines. If you’re still running your business with a Flash website it’s time for an UPGRADE!
  2. You think everyone is a potential client. One of the important lessons I’ve learned is that you have to know exactly who your “ideal” client is. Marketing your services or products to everyone or to a very broad demographic will not get you very far. Your messages will get lost in the sea of online and offline mail. You have to know who your ideal client is so that you can speak directly to them and cause your message to pop off of the page or screen. They will totally identify with your offer because it is ideal for them.
  3. The only funnel you know about is the one that channels liquid. Every business should map out its goals. Your map for business marketing and sales is called a funnel. If you don’t understand your sales funnel or have not created a sales funnel to maximize your profits, then you really are not positioned to make money in your business. You need to know who you’re going to sell to, when you’re going to sell it to them and how you’re going to sell it to them.

Getting the information you need to run a successful business is so important that you aren’t wasting your time or money. Get clear on what’s needed so when you hire the web designer or any other service professional for your business, that you can tell them exactly what you need. Don’t leave that up to them. It’s your job to know what’s needed for your business to be successful.
